HOW TO CREATE A MATERIAL LIBRARY IN BLENDER

I don't know about anyone else but, I find Blender's Cycles Render very daunting with all the Shaders, Vectors, Color, etc. nodes you have to add and and try to plug in the right way to get them to work properly. :-(   It can be a lot of work!  Unfortunately, as a beginner, most of us don't know about all the stuff out there to make our life easier.  We plod along doing things manually until we finally tell ourselves there just has to be a better way!

Currently, I am working on the creating the Bates House is Blender as a personal challenge putting to use what I have learned in the Creating 3D Environment Course over at https://www.udemy.com/.  LOL...yes, the Bates House from the movie Psycho.  Since the photos I am using for reference of the house are copyrighted, if you would like to look at some of the photos and learn a bit about the house, check out this website http://www.retroweb.com/universal_psycho.html. It will give you an idea of what I am working on.  While the structure itself is rather simple, creating all the details and finding just the right textures to match has been an adventure unto itself!  When I get done, I will post some pictures in another blog post.

Doing all the modeling for this structure has taken many hours and a lot of looking around for textures and creating various material nodes for the different pieces parts!  After working on this projects for at least 20 hours so far (never said I was a fast or efficient modeler LOL). I went on a search to make my modeling life easier and one of the things I found was the video posted below.

This is a very easy and fairly quick video to watch and will save you hours of time for future projects.  It teaches you how to create your own Blender Materials Library, which saves your node set-ups for use with other future projects.  Also, it teaches you how to add additional node set-up as your create them and how to import those set-ups with current Blender projects.

Please note, as of the date of this post, the video author states, at the end of his video, his materials library is available for purchase for $10.00; however, the links posted in the comment section are all expired. I left a comment noting the links are expired so perhaps he will post a more current one if his product is still available.
