ADDING SKIN TEXTURES TO YOUR MARVELOUS DESIGNER SECOND LIFE MODELS

About a year ago (June 28, 2014), I posted a short article entitled How To Add A Skin Texture Your Marvelous Designer Model and a video link to Marvelous Designer: Skinned Avatar, which was created and posted by Haven Ditko on YouTube.  Sometimes, certain topics of interest need to be revisited, like when newer versions of software makes older methods obsolete or, a new influx of people are looking for a "How Do I ...." tutorial.

ITEMS YOU WILL NEED

Software
1) Blender (software)
2) Marvelous Designer (software)
3) Second Life (software)
4) Avastar (add-on software for Blender)

Other Items
5) Skin textures created for use with the Second Life Avatar
6) .xml file(s) of the SL Avatar shape--(If you have a full perms shape in SL, you should be able to export your own shape via .xml files or those of the standard shapes.  See prior blog articles how to do this)

LET'S BEGIN...

The first thing you will need to do is export the Second Life (SL) Avatar shape(s), be it your shape or one of the 5 Standard SL Sizes (See the Second Life Market Place to acquire free copies of these shapes).  In order to export your shape, you will need to wear a full permissions (modify, copy, transfer) shape.  It may be possible to export a modify and transfer shape, but you will need to experiment with this yourself to see if it works.

Do you know how to export your shape from Second Life?  If not browse through this blog. There is a 3 part series on the steps regarding exporting your shape from SL, importing it into Blender to tweak it a bit, export as an .obj file, which is then imported into Marvelous Designer to work with the model.

VIDEO RESOURCES
Here are a couple of good tutorials posted on YouTube for you to watch.  These tutorial videos will explain the above steps rather quickly. The first video is a resource video on how to get your shape out of Second Life...into Blender to manipulate it, prepare it, and export it...then imported into Marvelous Designer to add skin textures.

The second video will show you the process of preparing your AV shape(s) in Blender for export.  These steps need to be followed; otherwise, it won't work properly in Marvelous Designer (MD).
